Strengthening Scouting for the Next Generation
For more than a century, Scouting has helped young people build character, leadership, confidence, and a spirit of service through life-changing experiences and outdoor adventure. Every campfire, service project, merit badge, and leadership opportunity is made possible by a strong support system working behind the scenes to provide safe, high-quality programs for our families.
As we look toward the future, the Sioux Council is implementing an updated membership structure beginning July 1, 2026. This change will help sustain and strengthen Scouting locally by supporting critical areas including youth protection, insurance, camp operations, volunteer training, technology systems, advancement support, and year-round program delivery.
Today, it costs the council more than $550 per youth annually to provide a quality Scouting experience, while many traditional funding sources have remained flat or declined in recent years. This updated membership model allows us to continue delivering meaningful experiences for Scouts across our communities while remaining focused on growth, adventure, and accessibility.
Most importantly, our commitment remains unchanged:
No Scout will ever be turned away because of financial hardship. Financial assistance and family scholarship opportunities will continue to be available to ensure every youth has the opportunity to experience Scouting.
This page is designed to provide clear information, answer common questions, and help families understand how this membership investment supports the future of Scouting throughout the Sioux Council and beyond.
